Review: ASUS VX3

As soon as we took this beauty out of its case, the Lamborghini yellow gleamed and we almost felt it rev in our hands. We switched it on, heard the classic Lambo growl… but that was it. After that, no trace of the charisma of the car that is its muse. Of course, this machine is more of a window dressing for auto enthusiasts who can’t afford the real thing. Still, we’d have loved to have a bit more power and zing in its performance. But don’t get us wrong, we aren’t saying that it’s a bad laptop. What we mean is that for the price, it is grossly under-powered and lacks the X factor under its hood. But compared to normal notebooks, it’s fast, powerful and a helluva looker. And yeah, you’ll also like the leather mouse pad with Lambo insignia and the Bluetooth mouse with a splash of yellow.

We always wanted to own a ASUS laptop (yup, they’re the guys who built the Lamborghini series of notebooks!) but were always put off by the hefty price tag. But now, it seems as if they too plan to tap into the low price segment. Which is why they have launched the ASUS Eee PC, all of 7″ wide and weighing just 0.92 kg. With a 900 Mhz Intel mobile processor, 512 meg RAM and 4 gig disc space, it looks like a fairly conventional ultra-portable - but further shrunk by about a third! And oh, we forgot to tell you about its built-in webcam and stereo speakers. Need more for this amount?
If HCL has its way, it won’t be long before we’ll be buying laptops at traffic lights. Within a ‘vision’ to make laptops available to every being on the planet, (please include apes too), they are out with their latest range of notebooks, MiLeap Leaptops. Pretty promising specs there… We hope it won’t be long before our company plans to replace our XXL-sized systems with these cool ultraportables!
